As a country lover there are many occasions when a good camping lantern is a must.
For example, I will most certainly be using it this Friday. We have a village bonfire and firework party. Our village is small and has no street lighting, wonderful for star-gazing as there is no light pollution but not so good when it comes to walking across the playing fields in the dark. I could, of course, use a torch or the flashlight on my phone - but there is something romantic about carrying a lantern isn't there?
This is no old-fashioned lantern though. It is a smart white plastic and black rubber lantern with a Perspex window around the three sides of LED lights. The lantern has a large fold-up carry handle or hanging hook on the top and also a small fold out hook on the bottom if you wish to hang it that way.
Another 'perk' to living in the country is frequent power outages. We have many, many power outages - the slightest storm or flurry of snow and the electricity is off. I do like a candle on such occasions but the lantern is much more practical, especially for carrying around the house.
There are 3 settings on this lantern - press the button once for a bright light, a second time for a dimmer light and a third time for a flashing light. A fourth press turns the light off.
This lantern takes 3 size D batteries which are not included. To fit them you twist off the base. It is a little fiddly to close it up again but as long as you line up the red arrows you will be ok. It should be noted that when switched off a little light flashes red to enable you to find the lantern in the dark. I'm not sure how much this drains the batteries but if you are not going to use the lantern for a while it is probably best to remove them.
There is an instruction leaflet that comes with the lantern, however it is written in German. It us pretty straightforward to work out how it works anyway though.
A really smart looking lantern that will be put to use far more frequently than on the occasional camping trip.

I have an excellent camping lantern which I find very useful. The Goal Zero 32001 Power Hub and Lantern is one of the best out there and it's very compact and won't easily topple down. I love the fact that this lamp have legs and a hook for hanging - now that's versatility! The solar panels of this baby rocks!
